Be a good neighbor

Feeding Tampa Bay's New plans
Feeding Tampa Bay is always looking for support. | Rendering by Feeding Tampa Bay
As we approach the holidays, it’s more important than ever to share great causes in the Tampa Bay area to support with your time.

Whether you’re an animal lover, an artsy type, a natural mentor, or a healthcare enthusiast — there’s a volunteer opportunity near you. Here are more than 25 ways to get involved around TBAY.

If you’re an animal lover

  • Friends of Strays Animal Shelter | Sign up to become a volunteer and dedicate at least six hours each month to dog walking, cat care, housekeeping, and more.
  • The Humane Society of Tampa Bay | Assist as a long-term or short-term volunteer to handle animals, adoptions, animal education, and special events, or get a group together for group volunteering.

If you want to help your neighbors in need

  • Reach St. Pete | Use your special skills — such as IT, finance, or marketing — to volunteer, or sign up for an event from the organization’s volunteer calendar.
  • Feeding Tampa Bay | Volunteer at the warehouse or help distribute meals at the Groceries on the Go truck.

Answered

Yesterday, we asked “What year did snow last fall in Tampa Bay?”

A picture from snowfall in 1977. The words "Florida," "77," and "Tampa" have all been written in snow on cars.

No prizes for guessing which city this photo was taken in.

Photo via @rubencapote49

The answer, which about 76% of readers correctly guessed, is 1977. Let’s reminisce:

Fleeting flakes from an artic frost dusted our coast after nightfall on Jan. 18, 1977. The next morning, residents reported waking up to one-to-two inches of powder — although the City of Tampa officially reported just 0.2 inches.

But it wasn’t all snowball fights + snowmen, the Tampa Bay Times also reported ~200 accidents and 79 hospitalizations.
Don't take our word for it

The Wrap

Earlier this week, we shared some key info for joining influential Tampa + St. Pete committees. But that’s just one way to build community.

Tampa Tiger Bay Club hosts a range of nonpartisan but topical discussions + intellectually stimulating events. Like Friday, November 21’s panel on “AI: Whether Friend or Foe, It’s the Future Now!”
