Juneteenth, the federal holiday which marks the end of institutional slavery in the US, is closely approaching, TBAY.

This year’s holiday falls on Monday, June 19, but celebrations start as early as this week. Plus, it’s never too early to text the groupchat to put some plans on the calendar.

  • Juneteenth Jam Brunch | Saturday, June 3 | 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. | Center for Health Equity, 2333 34th St. S., St. Petersburg | Free | Join St. Pete leaders and residents for a community conversation over brunch — make sure to register.
  • R.O.C. the Block | Saturday, June 17 | 3 p.m. | Raymond James Stadium | $10-$200 | The third annual Tampa festival features DJs, a massive kid zone with basketball courts and bouncy houses, and lots of local eats.
  • AfroCAN Fest | Sunday, June 18 | 5-9 p.m. | Perry Harvey Sr. Park, Tampa | $0-$75 | Celebrate with a picnic on the lawn or opt for the VIP experience — with a luxe bistro table, chock full of light apps curated by local black chefs, designed by Picnic Ave.
