A slice of history

Alfonso’s Pizzeria , 14942 N. Florida Ave., Tampa | A Tampa staple since 1978, this pizzeria offers tradition in its flavor. The owner moved to New York back in the 1970s from Sicily. Good luck getting your hands on the family secrets.

Toby’s Original Little Italy Pizza , 3523 49th St. N., St. Petersburg | For more than 50 years, St. Pete residents have enjoyed pizzas and subs from Toby’s. This laid-back spot has a simple menu with classics like meatball subs and thin-crust pies.

Lee’s Grocery , 2210 N. Central Ave., Tampa | Chow down on craft beers + specialty stone baked pizzas in the former grocery store which first opened back in 1884.

Eddie & Sam’s New York Pizza , 203 E. Twiggs St., Tampa | This joint has been giving Downtown Tampa a taste of the Big Apple since 1998 — literally. They use New York water in their dough.

Santoro’s Pizza , 1329 W. Cass St., Tampa | Named after the owner’s first son, there’s a slice of New Jersey here with some traditional Sicilian influence sprinkled on top for good measure.

Due Amici Pizza & Pasta Bar , 1724 E. 7th Ave., Ybor City | Many an Ybor night ends here. Head down until 3 a.m. to enjoy tasty slices. Fun fact: They import their tomatoes from Italy.
