It’s fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A.

Hey, village people. 👋

You might soon be able to live on the same property as the Jim and Heather Gills YMCA (3200 1st Ave. South, St. Petersburg). A proposed plan for the property would transform the plot’s west end into a mixed health and wellness-focused residential and retail community.

Project leaders plan to create retail storefronts for athletic shops or plant-based restaurants to match the theme of the neighborhood too.

YMCA-wise, the goal is to give the facility a significant facelift by creating more space and enhancing amenities like the soccer field and gym equipment, expanding youth and adult programming, and improving accessible parking.

Both the number of proposed units and the redevelopment timeline are still tight-lipped — but leaders say they want to help tackle the affordable housing and healthcare needs of TBAY.
