Prepare for Tampa’s annual River O’ Green event

The annual event returns this weekend, along with a host of other festive fun.

The Hillsborough River is colored with green dye. A boat is driving through the water, flying an Irish flag. The Unviersity of Tampa is in the background, with its iconic silver minarets sitting beneath a cloudless blue sky.

The annual family-friendly event returns on Saturday, March 16.

Get your green garb at the ready — St. Patrick’s Day is on the way.

And that means the Tampa Downtown Partnership’s annual River O’ Green event is coming back. The festivities are taking place on Saturday, March 16 — the day before the holiday — at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Hillsborough River will be turned shamrock green in honor of the holiday with eco-friendly dye. Officials say the dye is non-toxic + meets all EPA standards.

There will also be food + drink vendors, activities for kids, a pet costume contest, and live performances.

Officials are encouraging river-goers to make a transportation plan, as it could be tough to find parking in downtown. The TECO Streetcar runs from Ybor City, and rideshare services like Uber, Lyft, and DASH are also options.

Heads up: We’ll be posting about it on our Instagram.
