News Notes

Coming Soon

TBAY is getting two more CAVA locations — lest you wait for that Mediterranean bowl a little too long. Where at? The popular fast-casual spot opens its doors in Bradenton today, and in Lutz at a still-to-be-announced date. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

Development

What’s rising along Mirror Lake? Backstreets Capital just announced plans to build The Cade, a seven-story tower beside the historic Cade Allen House. The 15-unit project is inspired by its stone-laden neighbor. (St. Pete Catalyst)

Open

Two new dog parks just sprang up a short jaunt away from the old puppy parks right outside the Tampa Museum of Art. The small and large dog parks are parked between Curtis Hixon and Kiley Gardens for that easy Riverwalk access. (WUSF News)

Eat

Wright’s Gourmet House just opened up inside Tampa General Hospital on the Davis Islands campus. So now if you have to go the hospital, at least you can grab a breakfast sando on Cuban bread, some Buddy Brew cold brew, or maybe a piece of Alpine Cake. (That’s So Tampa)

Try This

We thought they’d never ask. The Rays want the community’s feedback on the proposed “Forever Home” stadium. Take the short survey to weigh in on potential features, amenities, and seating. (St. Pete Catalyst)

Outdoors

As I told you earlier this week, the annual Great Backyard Bird Count kicks off today and runs through Monday, Feb. 16. How does it work? Spend 15 minutes birdwatching in your yard one day, noting each feathered friend you see or hear. Then, submit your findings using Merlin.

Today Is

Friday the 13th, a day that has been long associated with bad luck. We hope it doesn’t impact you. Research shows, however, that superstitions like these definitely impact black cats, who are less likely to be adopted than other felines. Loli at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay needs a home. (History.com)

Seasonal

Roses are red, violets are blue… how much will Valentine’s Day florals cost you? The average price of a dozen roses from a florist in Florida is $84.97, according to a new FinanceBuzz study. But if the way to their heart is through their stomach, these local lunch deals will do the trick for way less.

The Wrap

One local 13-year-old is officially the youngest person to end-to-end hike the Florida Trail. I adored this retrospective on the teen and her dad’s 1,100 journey.

Congrats to Ms. Booth. When I was 13, I used to hide in a bush in front of our house to avoid going for a walk.
