Public transit to TPA?

A new rendering of the exterior of Tampa's new Airside D shows a modern, steel and windowed terminal flocked by red and blue-winged planes, palm trees, and cloudy blue skies.
Tampa International is getting a shiny new terminal. | Rendering via Tampa International Airport.
We love TPA, but getting there could be easier.

Tampa leaders are actively working on connecting TPA to downtown Tampa. Earlier this week, Tampa International Airport CEO Michael Stephens shared a possible solution at a Carlton Fields panel on “Turning Transit Challenges Into Opportunities.”

Airport leaders are looking into extending TPA’s people mover SkyConnect into downtown Tampa. How so?

The train/subway/little engine that could could connect to a potential multi-transit center at the old Doubletree hotel site in Westshore, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal. The line would then head up the median of I-275 toward downtown Tampa.

Remind me what the options are right now?

  • HART + PSTA | The bus stops are located at the Rental Car Center + the routes are also posted at the stop.
  • Uber or Lyft | Grab a car at the Red or Blue Baggage Claim, or the Remote Curbside at the Rental Car Center.
  • Car rentals |Take the SkyConnect train from the Main Terminal to the Rental Car Center.
City Guides are presented by Water Street Tampa.

We’re Bolts fans around here (don’t tell my diehard Canadiens fan father), but we’re still curious what the Panthers are wearing for the Winter Ball Classic. The team just unveiled the special uniform, complete with the old-school leaping panther crest. We’ll have to wait on the Lightning uni. (Tampa Bay Times)

The Wrap

Yesterday, we asked readers “How much did Tampa households spend on eating out from 2022 to 2023?”

About 39% of you correctly guessed Tampans spent $3,361 dining out that calendar year — we don’t want to know how much of that went to Uber Eats fees. Here’s a few solid spots to make 2025-2026’s budget stretch a little further.
