News Notes

Development

A developer wants to build a $136 million condo/hotel in South Tampa. The Magnolia Hotel and Residences would boast 122 hotel rooms, 8 townhomes, and 21 condos. Copperline Partners requested rezoning approval from the city, and the first hearing is booked for Thursday, Nov. 13. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

Civic

Speaking of rezoning, Tampa City Council is fighting to keep its authority over zoning and land-use decisions. Earlier this week, attorneys for the city appeared in the Second District Court of Appeal to argue that “zoning ordinances are legislative actions fully within the city council’s procedural authority.” (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

Coming Soon

Related Urban Group and the Tampa Housing Authority just celebrated the groundbreaking of a new affordable housing project in East Tampa. The Residences at East End will feature 174 units for residents earning 22% and 80% of the area median income — which is ~$32,000 to $83,000 for a family of four. (That’s So Tampa)

Seasonal

We’ve got plans for the next nine days. Specifically, the Tampa Theatre’s Nightmare on Franklin Street series. The historic — and likely haunted — theater is screening flicks like “Hocus Pocus,” “The Exorcist,” “Sinners,” and “The Phantom of the Opera.” (That’s So Tampa)

What’s next for Dunedin? Mazas Development is planning Main Street Exchange, a project including a boutique hotel, entertainment venue, food hall, parking garage, and marketplace. The project still needs approval from the Dunedin City Commission. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)
