Editor Bailey skipped last week’s Bolts opener (oop) and whisked away to The Tampa EDITION’s new late-night lounge experience: Red Room After Hours.
The red-draped, disco-ball ceiling-ed room is tucked into a separate room just past the main bar — so you can escape the late night Water Street partiers without heading home.
The space is only open from 10 p.m. to 1 p.m. and there’s a DJ who plays vibey instrumental tunes one could see Olivia Dean swishing champagne to.
The experience itself is basically bottle service, but way nicer. A waiter comes over to your booth to offer treats like:
Twice-fried Korean chicken
Daurenki petrossian caviar with crispy rice croquettes, kimchi sour cream, and a cured egg yolk
Truffle fries with sauces like a miso and ginger blend
Telmont Champagne Brut Reserve

St. Pete City Council voted last week to consider ending the Intown Community Redevelopment Area early. The what? The financing district was created to help pay for the Gas Plant District redevelopment project that centered a new Rays stadium. Instead, the $574.85 million would go toward citywide expenses. On the hunt for your new slice of Tampa Bay real estate? Note that the National Flood Insurance Program is paused during the federal government shutdown. What does that mean? Right now, the program cannot write policies + renew some existing ones, which could cause major issues if a hurricane hits. (Tampa Bay Times)

Clearwater is considering “dumping Duke.” The city just received results of a new study that shows if they dropped the utility next year its effective rates over the next five years would end up ~7% lower on average than the Duke rate on a yearly basis. (Creative Loafing Tampa Bay)

Editor Bailey’s dream is to live walking distance of Coffee Pot Boulevard’s famous pink trumpet tree — and this St. Pete pad is right down the street. Though it’s not really a pad. This updated Mid Century Modern gem boasts a pebbled pool, four bedrooms, and so many windows for a super reasonable price.

Looking for a pizza the action? Tampa Bay didn’t make The Food Network’s 50 States of Pizza Slices list, but we think they’re sleeping on our pizza scene. Whether you’re after thin crust, funky toppings, deep dish, or take out gems, we’ve got plenty of great pizzerias in town.

Sweet treats are officially good for you. Finally. Experts say the excitement of an inbound treat can help release dopamine, a neurotransmitter that contributes to focus, cognitive function, and feelings of joy. Sounds like the perfect excuse to get some Basque cheesecake topped with guava sorbet from Union New American. (The Guardian)

Craft beer is facing a dry spell. Sales were down 4% last year, and for the first time in 20 years, more breweries have closed than opened nationwide in the last 18 months. Luckily, Tampa Bay’s taps are still flowing — raise a glass at these local breweries. (The New York Times)

Monday Night Football ... and pizza?
A picturesque spot to sink a few slices. | Photo by @TBAYtoday
Whenever we’re feeling saucy, we like to dig into a slice of local pizza. The Tampa Bay area’s pizza scene is bubbling with options — and we keep finding ways to outdo ourselves.
If you’re on the quest for the perfect slice, we’ve pie-oneered a list of 15+ places to grab pizza that are definitely worth the dough.
A slice of history
Lee’s Grocery, 2210 N. Central Ave., Tampa | Chow down on craft beers + specialty stone-baked pizzas in the former grocery store which dates back to 1884.
Classic bites
Due Amici Pizza & Pasta Bar, 1724 E. 7th Ave., Ybor City | Many an Ybor night ends here. Head down until 3 a.m. to enjoy tasty slices. Fun fact: It imports tomatoes from Italy.
Award winners
The Nona Slice House, 997 Main St., Safety Harbor | Pro tip: Keep it simple here with a margherita pizza. That’s the flavor combo owner Jamie Culliton won Best Pizza in the Country for at the American Pizza Championship.
More than just pizza
Cappy’s Pizza, Multiple locations | This one could be controversial. Cappy’s serves up both classic New York-style pies and Chicago-style deep dish. We do not pick sides.
A set of non-slip stair carpet treads. We love that they feature a peel off backing for easy installation and no leftover residue. Bonus: They’re ultra-soft, durable, and easy to clean.
The fun doesn’t have to end here. After reading the newsletter, head over to our games page. Games refresh with new challenges every day at 6 a.m. from crossword puzzle to Sudoku to themed word search.
Last week, we asked you all how much you’ll shell out for concerts. About 39% of folks said they stick to under $200 — which isn’t hard to hit these days. Thanks, Ticketmaster.
We’re putting together a concert guide based on price, but they’re still time to share your budget.
