Tampa Bay is rapidly changing — with new towers, eateries, and places for the community to connect — announced seemingly every week.
Luckily for you, we’re here to chronicle its evolution. Here’s the latest updates coming to TBAY:
Water Street Tampa
What’s next for one of the Big Guava’s newest neighborhoods? Late last week, Strategic Property Partners filed plans to build a mixed-use tower at the northwest corner of Water Street and East Cumberland Avenue.
The 124-ft-tall building will boast 38,000 sqft of retail space, 675 parking spaces, and a rooftop area. Plus, the facade will be festooned with a green, yellow, and orange ombre design — all the better for remembering where you parked.
Williams Park is home to the Saturday Morning Market in the summer and Localtopia.
The Williams Park Partnership recently scored $800,000 in state funding to add lightning, a retaining wall, and fix sidewalks at the park. Plus, the Burg is supposed to spend $1.2 million on repairing the 1950s-era bandshell — a project that should start later this year.

Finally, some good news on the hurricane front. Researchers at Colorado State University have slightly decreased their predictions of an above-average season. Why? They cite a return to normal water temperatures + high vertical wind shear, which should weaken storms. (Tampa Bay Times)
Civic
A reminder: Monday, Aug. 11 is the last day to register to vote in the 2025 City of Tampa Special Municipal Election. The election to fill Gwen Henderson’s city council seat — who died earlier this summer — is booked for Tuesday, Sept. 9. Study up on the candidates.
Transit
You thought we would hop off the Brightline news? Guess again. One official recently said it could be 10 years before TBAY residents could zip back and forth between the cities on the high-speed rail system. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)
Number
$10.7 million. That’s how much Foot Locker is sinking into its new office space in St. Pete. The city just approved renovation plans for the 570 Carillon Pkwy space, which will likely house 150 employees. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)
Community
Speaking of hurricane season, Habitat for Humanity of Tampa Bay is building 23 homes fortified with hurricane protections. The new affordable housing community, Windhorst Commons, will provide families with homes with a safer place to live with built-in hurricane shutters.
