🏒 Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL) | Est. 1992

The Tampa Bay Lightning have had great success in recent years thanks in part to their star players. That includes Nikita Kucherov, who enjoyed a historic 2023-24 NHL season, and goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy, whose octopoid antics have saved many a Bolts fan’s night.

Where they play: Amalie Arena
  • Max. capacity: 21,500
  • It has also hosted musical acts from Coldplay and Carrie Underwood to Carole King and Barry Manilow.
  • Fun fact: Amalie Arena was originally named “The Ice Palace.”
Major accomplishments:
  • The team has won three Stanley Cups — in 2004, 2020, 2021.
  • The Bolts have made the playoffs in each of the last seven seasons.
  • The Lightning are the first (and currently only) team to have a woman play for them — goalie Manon Rheaume played in a preseason game in September 1992.
📅 See the team’s schedule.

Let’s hope for plenty of scenes like this next season.

  • Max. capacity: ~5,000
  • The team is spending $6 million on renovating the downtown Tampa stadium, increasing its capacity up from 1,800, laying new FIFA-approved turf, upgrading the locker rooms, and ensuring a professional fan experience.
Team colors: Dark blue, yellow
Major accomplishments:
  • Never lost a game.
  • Never had a losing record.
  • Never conceded a goal.

Development details for Tampa’s Riverwalk District

A rendering of two developments on the west side of the Hillsborough River: District Flats and ICON. The high rises sit right on the river as part of Tampa's Riverwalk expansion plans, which will create a River District adjacent to the one already in place.
Building toward the future. | Rendering via Related Group
We recently shared Tampa’s ongoing West River District plans. In short, the city wants to add a Riverwalk to the west side of the Hillsborough River — across from the current one.

Now, the future of the district is becoming clearer thanks to recently released renderings via Related Group. The real estate and development company is planning four separate mixed-use developments. More info has been revealed on two of the projects: District Flats and Riverwalk District ICON.

The 24-story District Flats building will boast 363 units, retail space, and ~750 parking spots. ICON will stand taller at 38 stories, with almost 700,000 sqft and 269 units.

Located right across from the Rivergate Tower — aka the Beer Can Building — the six-acre site cost Related Group $55 million. The group plans to inject about $1 billion into the site, creating ~1,100 dwelling units.

After introducing you to Getmyboat — the Airbnb of boating — last week, we asked how old you need to be to rent a personal watercraft in Florida.

You know your stuff. Around 53% of responses gave the correct answer — 18 years old.

Fun fact: A 14-year-old is legally allowed to operate a personal watercraft in the Sunshine State.

I am very excited about Tampa Bay Sun FC’s debut next month. ICYMI: The first game takes place on Saturday, August 18 versus Dallas Trinity FC. If you can’t make the opener, here’s the full schedule.

Not only am I looking forward to watching the team play, but catching some live soccer right next to the Hillsborough River is going to be quite the gameday experience.
