Parents are relieved but emotional. Students are excited but sad to bid summer farewell. That can only mean one thing: it’s the first day back to school for Pinellas and Hillsborough County schools families.

You can find academic calendars and other information on each school’s website, and you can also take a look at our guide to 20+ area elementary, middle, and high schools.

Here’s what you should know ahead of the new school year. ✏️

Tampa was snubbed for this year’s America’s Best Restroom Award. That stinks — but we can roll with it.

Instead, we’re conducting a restroom awards celebration of our own: but first, we need your help.

Which bathrooms in Tampa Bay do you think deserve a medal? Do they have the softest toilet paper and best-smelling hand soap in the city? Do they make privacy a pinnacle? Do they catch your eye with interesting decor? Let us know via our survey or by email.

Need inspiration? Check out the pictured bathroom, Tampa International’s Airside C facilities, which won the 2022 Cintas America’s Best Restroom Contest thanks to its beachy graphics, cleanliness, and spacious area with a “resort-like feel.”

I will be honest — I love a good bathroom. Why wouldn’t you make such a necessity (ok, it’s not water, but you would never buy a house without one) delightful? If I could make a full-time salary traveling the world and rating different bathrooms, I would sign that job offer in a heartbeat. In fact, I’ve already written up not one, but two bathroom stories for Chattanooga, TN.
