It’s almost the most wonderful time of the year — summertime.

There’s just a couple months left in the school year, and we have a few suggestions for camps and activities that will keep the youngins busy all summer long.
  • This one’s for the budding Picassos or who maybe just need a creative outlet. The Morean Arts Center + Morean Center for Clay camps runs from June 5 to August 4 — with new themes (like Florida, science, public art, and the ocean) every week. The camp costs $210-$260.
  • The City of Tampa offers a Recreate, Educate, and Create camp and specialty camps. This year’s R.E.C. camp is themed “Think Green... Conserve, Protect, Reduce” + runs from May 30-August 9 and costs $80. The city’s specialty camps dig into interests like arts and sports over three day to one-week periods — prices vary. Financial assistance applications are open now.
  • Is your kid obsessed with the Museum of Science and Industry’s bed of nails or Sky Trail Ropes Course? Sign them up for a summer of experiments, robot building, and other discovery fun with a MOSI camp. The museum’s week-long sessions start the last week of May and run through August.
  • Let your kids try their hand at Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai at the Marcio Cruz Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Summer Camp. This full-day camp runs from May 29-August 4 and offers weekly field trips, arts and crafts activities, and reading time.
  • St. Petersburg Parks & Recreation has options for every kind of kid, from lifeguarding to tech. Check out the website for more information.
  • Are you ready for some Estuary EDventures? Tampa Bay Watch’s annual summer camp at the Auer Marine Education Center in Tierra Verde is packed with boating trips, species collection, snorkeling excursions, and marine science labs and activities. Camps run from June to July/August + cost $360.
And if you don’t want to book full camp sessions, check out our guide to kid-friendly places around Tampa Bay for activities to pack into your afternoons and weekends for the summer.

Are there any places we should add to the list? Let us know.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor awards Taylor Swift the key to the city

Paging Mayor Swift.

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor made headlines Monday when she offered the superstar the key to the city ahead of her TBAY “Eras Tour” shows — and the opportunity to be mayor for the day.

“We know Glendale changed its name, Arlington made a street sign, and Vegas illuminated their Gateway Arches,” Castor said in a video posted to the city’s Instagram. “But here in Tampa, we’ve got a reputation to uphold... and we want to go bigger.”

Thus, the city is asking its Swifites to get the message out on social media by sharing the video and tagging Taylor.

No matter Ms. Swift’s decision, the Tampa Riverwalk, Old City Hall, and downtown bridges “will shine Taylor Swift Red from sundown to sunrise” on Thursday, April 13, the date of the first show, according to the release.

No one asked, but I’m still formulating my “Eras Tour” plans. I’m thinking of scheduling an Uber to pick me up after the show.
