Development
Earlier this week, St. Pete’s Development Review Commission approved plans to turn the downtown Fit2Run site into a 14-story hotel. The Kolter Group intends to build a $43 million Tempo by Hilton hotel with a rooftop pool and bar, parking garage, 192 rooms, and a lobby bar. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)
Bring on the sushi, dim sum, desserts, and sake. Sunda New Asian is opening up a 6,000-sqft restaurant in Midtown Tampa this summer. The popular restaurant brand already has buzzy spots in Nashville and Chicago. (That’s So Tampa)

$234,000. That’s how much Miller & Sons LLC owes Tampa in fines for cutting down more than two dozen trees at a South Tampa mobile home park in 2019. The company’s representation says they aren’t “done fighting yet.” (Tampa Bay Times)

Celebrate National Poetry Month this Saturday, April 8 at the “Poetic Portals” Art & Poetry Showcase. The Friends of Jack Kerouac fundraiser boasts live tunes from Johnny White Xperience, live screenprinted shirts, and performances from tons of local artists. The event runs from 7-11 p.m. at the “Wayworld” in the Factory St. Pete.
Film
A new indie filmed right here in TBAY, “The Throwback,” premieres at the Tampa Theatre Wednesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. The family comedy stars comedian Will Sasso + Justina Machado. (That’s So Tampa)

Water Street just announced a digital detox event “A Way with Words,” as part of its Sunset Series. The Friday, April 21 event runs from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Here’s some of what’s on tap:
Local on-demand poet sensation Gio’s Typos will be in attendance to write verses about guests
Water Street will have a yard-sized dice set on hand for attendees to play Haikubes, a game that helps you create a haiku poem
Visitors can stop by the recently opened neighborhood bar Small Giant for library-themed cocktails
