Meet the editors behind TBAYtoday

Say hello to Bailey and Patrick — the brains behind your daily dose of Tampa Bay area news.

City editors Bailey and Patrick stand on the field at Riverfront Stadium while the Tampa Bay Sun players warm up behind. The sun is shining and the turf is a bright green color. The stands are filling with fans in the background.

The faces behind the words.

Hey TBAY, Bailey and Patrick here. Between the two of us, we get the privilege of sharing local news, events, and conversations with readers daily — here, and on our socials.

We wanted to formally introduce ourselves with a quick-fire Q+A session.

Meet Bailey ☀️

Q: If you could only write about one Tampa Bay topic for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: Hmm that’s a tough one. Probably the outdoors or features about all of the interesting people that call our slice of the Gulf Coast home.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about living in the Tampa Bay area?
A: It’s gotta be the parks. I love to check out a new-to-me (especially waterfront) spot every weekend if I can with my dog, Sage, or a book. It feels like life here revolves around spending as much time outside as possible and I love it.

Q: Hit us with your favorite piece of local trivia.
A: Did you know Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers played a show atop the Don CeSar for MTV? Yep, here’s the story.

Meet Patrick 🫡

Q: What would you do on your perfect TBAY day?
A: I’d start with a coffee from Shortwave before heading along the Tampa Riverwalk with my dogs. Lunch at the Columbia Restaurant would precede a Lightning or Bucs game, before heading over to downtown St. Pete for a night on Central Avenue. Or alternatively — a deckchair, a book, and the beach.

Q: What’s something every new Tampa Bay resident oughta know about?
A: The Cuban sandwich tells a delicious yet integral part of Tampa’s history through its ingredients, representing those who flocked to join Ybor City’s burgeoning cigar trade around the turn of the 20th century. La Segunda Bakery is credited with Tampa’s version of the sandwich — combining Cuban bread + mojo marinated pork to appease Cuban immigrants, smoked ham for those from Spain, Genoa salami for Italians, and mustard, sour pickles, and Swiss cheese for German expats.
