We got the chance to tour The Stevedore, Gasworx’s latest addition, which opens in April 2026. It’s the second project in the buzzy mixed-use development that abuts Ybor — and it’s made to feel like a modern, but natural part of the storied neighborhood.
The complex will feature 390 apartments, an outdoor garden planted (and maintained for the initial year) by Meacham Urban Farm, a large central courtyard with a heated pool, a club lounge and resident bar, and a parlor room with fireplace.
Kettler, the developer, focused on blending the brand-new build into the neighborhood.
First off, with its name. The Stevedore is a nod to the longshoremen or dock workers who kept the Cigar City’s shipping industry running — hauling boxes of bananas off boats from the Caribbean — and established Tampa’s roots.
The building is designed to mirror the historic brick buildings that line Seventh Avenue like the Historic Kress Building, but the rest of the space also nods to the neighborhood, with details like:
- Materials like brick, stucco, and cornish details at the top of the building
- Large murals and pieces of art inspired by historic Burgert Brothers photos + Tampa’s roots
- Custom wallpaper in the mailroom featuring an Ybor-inspired toile with gems like the Streetcar
- Arched windows and doorways commonly found in historic buildings
- Plaques explaining the area’s history located at building entrances
- A preserved Grand Oak right outside the incoming retail space
So, what’s next for the neighborhood?
Look out from The Stevedore’s rooftop and you’ll spot Kettler’s slew of other under construction projects, which include:
- A new European-forward marketplace
- The one-acre Gasworx Park
- An office tower 50% occupied by Grow Financial
- Louisa, a new housing project with lots of amenities for younger residents
- Olivette, the development’s largest
- A TECO Streetcar stop
