USF’s new stadium price tag compared to other Florida schools

Stats majors, where you at?

Last week, we told you about USF’s new stadium financing plan. The school is allocating $340 million to, what could be, one of the most expensive college football stadiums in the Sunshine State.

Let’s put that price tag into perspective.

Keep in mind inflation + construction costs have changed over time.

UCF’s FBC Mortgage Stadium

USF’s sports rival across I-4 built its FBC Mortgage Stadium in 2007 for $55 million.

The Bounce House is set to receive a few new upgrades in the coming years totaling $125 million. Add that to the original build + you’re looking at $180 million.

Other Florida schools

UF: The Gators want to update The Swamp for the 2024 season. Budgets are still being finalized, but athletic director Scott Stricklin says the reno will cost a “few hundred million dollars” on top of the stadium’s original $118,000.

FAU: The Owls Nest is the only collegiate stadium in the US with a 180-degree view of the ocean. Construction of the $70 million facility began in 2009 ($128 million today).

*It’s worth noting that USF doesn’t want to break the bank if they don’t have to.
