News Notes

Number

$50 million. That’s how much money Hillsborough County wants from the state for the Rays’ new ballpark. We still don’t know what the pricetag for the project will be. Construction on the project should start on Nov. 1 and wrap up before Opening Day 2029. (Axios Tampa Bay)

Development

Work just started on the Westshore Interchange project. What does that mean for commuters? Frontage Road from Cypress Center Drive to Cypress Street is closed off for Phase 1 of the project. This phase is expected to cost $643 million and wrap up in 2029. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

Coming Soon

Not to be outdone by Buddy Brew, Kahwa just opened up a new drive-thru on Kennedy this week. It’s the local java brand’s third drive-thru location across TBAY. (Creative Loafing Tampa Bay)

Real Estate

You could visit FloridaRAMA, or you could live in the Florida Man house. No, really. This on-the-market home boasts its own indoor waterfall, pirate’s cove, western saloon, and other details you really need to see to believe. (Tampa Bay Times)

Listen

Remember when almost every artist would release live albums? Streaming has drastically changed our access to live music, but we can still reminisce on the best examples from history. An album is good, but the real thing is better — as you’ll discover at Tampa Bay’s music venues. (The Guardian)

Pets

Cows might be smarter than we thought. A Swiss Brown cow named Veronika has been seen using a stick to scratch her back — reportedly the first time cattle have shown they can use tools. See if you can teach the animal in your life some new tricks at one of Tampa Bay’s dog-friendly spots. (BBC)

Arts

Discounts, free educational opportunities, reciprocal benefits like free entry to partner museums, and more exclusive perks: That’s what you get as a member at the Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art. Check out all the benefits, compare membership levels, and join.*

Answered

Yesterday, we asked, “What year did Buddy Brew open?”

BBC X Sprouts_2.jpg

Sip on your fave local brew while you grocery shop.

About 43% of our readers correctly guessed Buddy Brew got its start in 2010. Well, that’s when Dave and Susan Ward officially opened the cafe on Kennedy.
And they're still growing
