Every day, we write TBAYtoday with one goal: to help you feel more connected to your city. And we’re not alone — our friends across the US, from Seattle to Tampa Bay, do the same for our 6AM City communities.

We believe in the power of local media to keep the community informed, engaged, and excited about where they live. That’s why our newsletter is and will remain free.

How do we make it sustainable?

We partner with national brands and some of Tampa Bay’s best organizations + businesses that support our mission of bringing only good news to your inbox. But we also rely on reader support.

Over the next 10 days, we’re launching a reader-driven campaign to sustain what we do best:

  • Curating news for every Tampan | Like this roundup of upcoming Tampa Bay restaurants and this feature on how we’re getting a 250-ft-tall observation wheel
  • Helping you plan for major events | From festival coverage to our TBAYtoday Events section filled with the most-anticipated events in Tampa Bay
  • Maintaining our credibility + trust | Fun fact: Our company has turned down more than a million dollars in political ads since we started

If reading TBAYtoday makes an impact on your day, we’d love your support — a little pick-me-up for us, so we can keep the good news coming for you.

News Notes

Development

Sky St. Pete is officially going up after a multi-year construction delay. The Southwest Florida Management District recently approved a permit for the 20-story, 246-unit downtown tower. The city approved the project back in 2022. (St. Pete Catalyst)

Civic

Yesterday, we shared that the developer of 400 Central wants more time to submit a proposal for the Trop site. And you know that they say, “you want it, you got it.” Mayor Ken Welch told the Tampa Bay Business Journal he’s going to postpone the 30-day proposal window until January. (Tampa Bay Times)

Opening

The Luce, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel opens next year in St. Pete Beach. Where at? The hotel is going up on the old Postcard Inn Property. Plans for the prime beachfront plot also include a restaurant called Sundrop, on-the-sand offerings from the Baby Turtle Beach Club, yoga classes, and live DJ “Groove Sessions.” (I Love the Burg)

Try This

Halloween is over, but there’s still Ghostfest. Head to Roser Park this Saturday, Nov. 15 for a haunted market with tarot readings, vendors and nonprofits, and lots of eats. And consider getting an in-depth tour of the historic hilly neighborhood from Spirits of St. Petersburg’s paranormal investigator Brandy Stark. (Creative Loafing Tampa Bay)

Show

One of our favorite beach bums singers is coming back to TBAY. Jack Johnson plays MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. And Lake Street Dive is opening the show. Tickets go on sale this Friday, Nov. 14. (Creative Loafing Tampa Bay)

The glitzy neighborhood is decked out for the holidays

No need to brave the New York cold for holiday magic this year — just the frigid paradise that is Tampa this week. Season Spectacular returns to Water Street Tampa this Friday, Nov. 14. from 5-9 p.m.

Wander the skyscraper-lined streets for photos with Mr. Claus, jolly tunes and carolers, and holiday-themed crafts and treats, plus:

  • The Holiday Glow Lounge, a holiday-themed dance party in Via Corazon
  • A holiday-themed silent disco
But wait, there’s more. Take a short walk over to Sparkman Wharf for its Winter Wonder Wharf celebration with:
  • A 30-ft Christmas tree lighting at 7 p.m.
  • “The Nutcracker"-inspired performances

The Wrap

The time to preorder Thanksgiving meals to-go or book resys is waning, so hop to. Which reminds me, I recently became a fan of Trader Joe’s stuffing-flavored popcorn. It sounds strange, but it’s pretty decent.

Are there any locally-inspired Thanksgiving dishes your family busts out every year? Let me know, and we might share your recipe + story in the newsletter.
