You don’t need to jet off to the Catalan coastline. We have the coastal views, Dalí’s works, and now the sumptuous Spanish cuisine right here.
Chef Rob Reinsmith of Wild Child will chef up a multi-course meal inspired by the surrealist painter’s homeland for the latest installment of the Flavors of Spain Dinner Series on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
Here’s the dishes I’m the most excited about (on the off chance that I score an invite):
Arroz Negra: snapper a la plancha, cockles, squid, chorizo, shishito peppers, lime aioli
Pan con Chocolate y Sobrasada: Pork sobrassada, bitter chocolate, olive oil, sea salt, baguette

We’re on Hurricane Erin watch. The hurricane is now a Category 3 storm after rapidly intensifying into a Category 5 storm over the weekend. Stay posted on Tampa Bay impacts with coverage from WTSP. (USA Today)
Development
Changes could be on the way to the Burg’s Jamestown Apartments and Townhomes. St. Pete City Councilmembers are considering allowing development on the small parcels beside the city-owned affordable housing complex. The move would require a voter referendum. (St. Pete Catalyst)
Coming Soon
This just in: Tampa is becoming the donut capital of the world. Just kidding, we made that up. But, fan-fave Everglazed Donuts is opening up its second TBAY location in Carrollwood. Make a drive-thru run for cold brew, coconut-doused donuts, donut–and chicken sandwiches, or chicken tenders. (Creative Loafing Tampa Bay)
Mansion Monday
Never deal with a naked neighbor or shrieking dog again. This newly-listed Tarpon Springs home sits on 12+ acres, so you can selectively interact with society. The 4-bedroom abode also boasts a fireplace, exposed wood beams, and top-notch Brooker Creek Preserve views. Take a tour.
Arts
Last week, we shared that this year’s Shine Mural Festival won’t feature international artists. Why? St. Pete Arts Alliance’s new director Helen French says while part of the change is due to artist evacuations during last year’s hurricane season, it’s also a chance to feature more of our equally-statured local artists. (Creative Loafing Tampa Bay)
Try This
The next time you spring for the seasoned potato wedges at KFC, remember we — the TBAY area — played a part in their comeback story. Kentucky Fried Chicken tested out the old menu item at one St. Pete location this spring, and it was a success, obviously. So they’re back for good. (St. Pete Catalyst)
Stat
73% of the corn crop across the US is in good to excellent condition — a 5% increase from this time last year, thanks to the abundant rainfall. Excited to try the cream of the crop? We recommend Mangonadas Mexican Kitchen street corn, finished off with chili powder. (AgWeb)
Drink
Save the date, pumpkin spice latte people — the beloved beverage will return to Starbucks on Tuesday, Aug. 26. Need something to sip in the meantime? Try a seasonal drink at one of Tampa Bay’s local coffee shops.
Number
12,027. That’s roughly how many feet the world’s longest suspension bridge will be once completed. The project recently received final approval in Italy, and will connect the boot-shaped mainland with the island of Sicily. Comparing that to the Gandy Bridge’s 14,859 ft helps put it in perspective. (BBC)

What’s that sound? Dial-up’s final rings. AOL announced it will discontinue its dial-up services on Tuesday, Sept. 30, after three decades. Help bring any users up to speed by connecting them to TBAYtoday when they get a new provider. (NPR)

All Bucs starters besides Evans and Lavonte David should be “ready to play,” according to Todd Bowles. Check in on the rest of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Locked On’s daily podcasts.

Last week we grilled you guys on your ideal AC temp. Most folks, a cool 65%, said 72°. Which is perfect, since that’s pretty much what our local museums keep theirs set at. If that’s not you, you can still vote.
I keep mine set to 78° — which only 21% of you got it right. Sigh, do you know me at all? And trust, I will be turning my unit off come October to get some of that signature sea breeze in my little bungalow.
