A Rays game at Stenbrenner field. The floodlights are on, the stands are full, and we are looking from behind home plate. Players are on the field, ready for a pitch, with a cloudy but bright sky above.
Have you been to Steinbrenner Field for a Rays game yet? With rumors of the team being sold, the Rays’ future continues to cast a murky glow over our usually tranquil Gulf waters.

Beyond doubt is the unique experience of an intimate ballgame at Steinbrenner — the second-smallest ballpark in the big leagues. With hockey, basketball, and football all in the off-season, it’s the perfect time to see baseball up-close in the Cigar City. This year might be the only chance you get.

News Notes

Weather

We got the first named storm of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season yesterday. Meteorologists say Tropical Storm Andrea poses no threat to us in Tampa Bay, and is expected to move away from the Eastern Seaboard. The best time to get ready for anything more concerning is as soon as possible. (WTSP)

Biz

Space is filling up inside the Gulf Coast’s tallest building. Dynasty Financial Partners will lease 100% of the office space at the under-construction Residences at 400 Central. The New York-founded company seems set to stay in St. Pete after signing a 15-year lease, expected to start November 2026. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

Announced

ZooTampa is mourning the loss of 14-year-old clouded snow leopard Malee, who was euthanized after a severe illness diagnosis. “While most clouded leopards are known to be shy and reclusive, Malee was also a feisty and independent cat,” the zoo wrote, honoring her “substantial contribution to this vulnerable Asian species.”

Development

St. Pete is planning to bring new life to the Manhattan Casino. The 100-year-old venue served the area south of downtown for 40+ years before its 2022 closure. The Burg has filed a permit to turn the space into a two-level, rental event venue, and has $4.8 million set aside. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

Closing

Beloved British-style pub The Studio Public House is closing its doors this summer after four years of service with the landlord selling the Grand Central District building. A date isn’t set yet, so get down for a pint, some footie, and comforting British grub while you can. (I Love the Burg)

The Wrap

Today’s Edition by: Patrick

Yesterday, we asked for your favorite places to walk around Tampa Bay. The most popular answer was 36% for the Tampa Riverwalk, with the St. Pete waterfront in second place with 28% of the vote.

For me, it’s hard to beat Bayshore Boulevard — which got a bronze medal-worthy 25% of responses — especially while the sun is rising. Exhibit A:
A sunrise over Tampa Bay from Bayshore Boulevard. The water is slightly bumpy, and a yellow orb-like sun is casting rays of yellow and orange across the cloudless sky. Davis Islands is visible in the distance, and the sun is rising above.
