News Notes

Sports

Eight straight, baby. The Lightning clinched a spot in the playoffs over the weekend with the New York Rangers’ 4-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Next up, the Bolts take on the Maple Leafs and the Red Wings. We’ll keep you posted on the playoffs schedule. (NHL)

Development

Speaking of the Lightning, plans are in the works to amp up Amalie. The team’s CEO is eyeing upgrades to the nearly 30-year-old stadium — like wider concourses + concession stands and “vertical transportation” improvements so fans can move more easily between Amalie’s levels. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

Transit

Tampa International Airport CEO Michael Stephens wants to explore how the airport can solve transportation issues. Think: Bringing the SkyConnect from TPA into busy neighborhoods + leaning into electric vertical take-off and landing in the future. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

Opened

Calling all St. Pete Melting Pot devotees. The fondue-heavy eatery just opened on Central Avenue, after a four-year disappearance from the Burg. The new ~5,000-sqft location features an indoor-outdoor bar, behind-the-scenes kitchen views, and TBAY-inspired additions to the menu. (Tampa Bay Times)

Number

19,777. That’s how many fans packed Amalie on Sunday to watch the Huskies win the NCAA women’s basketball championship. And it was a win for TBAY too, with UConn star Paige Bueckers saying, “Tampa treated us well.” Which is good, because the tournament returns to the Cigar City next year. (That’s So Tampa)

Real Estate

Meet 7th and Oak, Tampa Heights’ latest apartment tower. The 321-apartment building is set to open later this year, and features a rooftop pool, a sauna and cold plunge, fire pits, and a pet-friendly area with bar seating. Take a peek. (Tampa Tomorrow)

Biz

Toss a pink-striped towel down by the pool: The Don is reopen. The Pink Palace started welcoming guests back in late March after six months of hurricane repairs. Take a peek at some of the renovated spaces. (Tampa Bay Times)

The Wrap

I started my sailing journey over the weekend with a class at the Boca Ciega Yacht Club. So yes, I am pumped for the L.L. Bean opening in Sarasota.

And of course, I’m now deep into researching our local sailing/boating history — like the Boca Ciega clubs’ roots as the Sunshine City Boat Club. Do you have any cool local maritime stories (old or new)? I’d love to share them.
