News Notes

Development

Believe it or not, the sounds of construction in downtown St. Pete may be quieter now. Construction is complete on the multi-use development 1246 Central in the EDGE District, right by the Moxy Hotel. The project marks the end of Phase I of the EDGE Collective. (St. Pete Catalyst)

History

Tampa’s Black History Museum is launching its book club tonight. The Black History Book Club is meeting at 5:30 p.m. to discuss “Black Like Me” by John Howard Griffin. Meetings are taking place on the last Monday of every other month through October. Sign ups are still open.

Legacy

Tampa’s Pups Pub community is mourning the sudden loss of co-founder Trevor Tackett, who died while on military duty in the Philippines earlier this month. “He just had so much joy and positivity,” said Alex Wright, co-owner, friend, and fellow veteran. You can donate to K9s for Warriors in his honor. (WFLA)

Eat

Who’s making the journey out to Plant City for the Florida Strawberry Festival? The 11-day event returns this Thursday, Feb. 27 featuring all sorts of tasty treats and live performances — including appearances from Reba McEntire, Boyz II Men, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. We ate good in 2024.

Here’s your friendly Monday reminder to compliment your friends, courtesy of the Tampa Bay Rays. After all, we all like to hear nice things about ourselves.

Mansion Monday

This outrageous Davis Islands home just hit the market. If 100 ft of waterfront isn’t enough, there’s also five beds, seven baths, a pool, a bay-facing balcony, and lavish living spaces galore across 7,800+ sqft, all within walking distance of downtown Tampa.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Patrick

City Editor Patrick holding his very fluffy dog next to a trophy.
Yes, I’m still here. I already dropped it in the News Notes above, but K9s for Warriors is a great cause.

And if you haven’t been to Pups Pub yet, I highly recommend it. That’s where I got this photo with my dog and the Stanley Cup a couple years back.

It’s a fully off-leash dog bar in SoHo with a full liquor license, TV screens with live sports, and bar games like pool + shuffleboard. If you see me (and Arthur) there, make sure to say hello.
