Weather
  • Hurricane Rafael grew to Category 3 strength on Wednesday. The storm made landfall in Cuba, and weakened as it entered the Gulf of Mexico. Forecasters don’t expect Tampa Bay to see major impacts. (Tampa Bay Times)
Civic
  • You voted, now what? It’s time to check out the full breakdown of election results — from local Hillsborough and Pinellas races to state amendments. (Tampa Bay Times)
Community
  • Speaking of election results, Hillsborough voters renewed the Community Investment Tax. The money from the half cent tax is used to build fire stations, expand public parks, and road improvements. The measure was set to expire by 2026. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)
Edu
  • Hillsborough residents also voted to increase teachers’ salaries. The millage referendum passed with more than 66% of the vote, and will charge residents $1 on every $1,000 of taxable property value. The tax will bring in about $177 million + add 2,300 full-time jobs to the district. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)
Announced
  • Tampa International Airport just scored $40 million in federal funding for its expansion plans. The money from the Federal Aviation Administration grant will be used for TPA’s new Airside D project. The terminal is projected to cost $1.5 billion + will open in 2028. (That’s So Tampa)
Sports
  • Prefer to pickleball indoors? Us too. Dill Dinkers, a new indoor pickleball chain, is coming to the Burg. Locals, Kevin and Lisa Goettel, plan to open at least 10 facilities across Pinellas County. We’ll keep you posted on location updates. (St. Pete Rising)
Opening
  • Ooey gooey good news for cinnamon roll fans. Cinnaholic, a. vegan cinnamon roll spot, is opening up on Fourth Street North. The eatery already has a South Tampa location where they dole out rolls with 20 different frosting flavors + 20 toppings. (I Love the Burg)
Closing
  • Longtime Sundial resident Sea Salt will serve its final meals on December, 31. The restaurant first opened back in 2015, and is popular for its bountiful seafood menu. Owners took to social media to share the news, adding, “This farewell is bittersweet, but we’ll forever cherish these experiences.” (Creative Loafing Tampa Bay)
