Don’t worry, we haven’t kept our eye off the money. Specifically, the Cigar City’s treasure.

Tampa City Council leaders are set to discuss the proposed $1.8 billion budget this month — working to finalize the city’s 2024-2025 financial plan before the new fiscal year kicks off in October.

How to get involved

The city held its first public hearing earlier this month, and there’s plenty of other chances to make your voice heard.
  • The City Council Citizens Advisory Budget And Finance Committee meets tomorrow, Sept. 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Sister Cities Room at Old City Hall. Attendees are welcome to sign up for public comment.
  • There’s another public hearing scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 5:01 p.m. at Old City Hall, and it’s also being streamed online. A note: Make sure to submit your request for public comment before heading to the meeting.

We’ll take a swig of that

What flavors should Swig release in Tampa Bay?

Hey TBAY, City Editor Bailey here. One of my truest loves, other than dessert, is unfortunately soda. So when I say the news about Swig coming to Tampa is a personal triumph, I mean it.

The TikTok-famous, Utah-based, “dirty soda” company is known for jazzing up Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper, and other classic sodas with half n’ half, coconut, and all kinds of other accoutrements. I came up with a few TBAY-inspired concoctions — just in case the folks at Swig need my aspartame expertise.
    • Pirate’s Bounty: Like the beloved snack, you won’t be be able to get enough of this blend of Dr. Pepper, Nerds, half n’ half, and cherry.
    • Rum and Coke: Like your favorite Gaspy cocktail, but skip the alcohol and add vanilla, clove, and coconut to Coke.
    • The Creamsicle: A true ode to Florida’s citrus groves, this blend would feature Fanta, a touch of Sprite, and a good dollop of cream. Talk about summertime magic.
