Pay your respects at Tampa Bay’s 9/11 memorials

It’s been 23 years since nearly 3,000 people lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Since then, the day has offered people across the United States a chance to honor and respect those who died during the tragedy.

In Tampa Bay, you can do so at the following sites:

Bayshore Boulevard Memorial, 3003 Bayshore Blvd., Tampa
Near Bay to Bay Boulevard, this memorial contains a column from the North Tower of the World Trade Center. It also functions as a sundial, casting shadows to tell stories of the day’s events.

Rise, 515 22nd St. S., St. Petersburg
Pay homage in the Warehouse Arts District, where this sculpture opened in 2021. The piece represents rebirth and an emergence from tragedy, as a phoenix rises from the ashes to look forward as a community while honoring the past.

9/11 Fallen Heroes Memorial, 1900 N. 20th St., Ybor City
Among Ybor’s brick streets, you’ll find an iron beam from Tower 2 as part of this tribute. There are also four sculptures dedicated to the the first responders who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Ybor City’s tribute was unveiled in 2014.

The waterfront park contains several poignant artifacts, including three beams from the World Trade Center, a Flag of Honor, and a Heroes’ Garden.

Oldsmar Fire Rescue Memorial, 225 Pine Ave. N., Oldsmar
The fire station’s tribute opened in 2006, honoring the lives of the 343 New York City firefighters killed in the attack.
