Summer’s almost over, but here in Tampa Bay, the heat is not. We’re digging into the question on everyone’s mind — how many days this year will Tampa be over 90°?
Well, let’s take a look at how hot it’s been so far.
The National Weather Service reports that Tampa had 20 dayswith temperatures at or above 90° in May, 27 days in June, 29 days in July, and 28 days in August.
How does 2024 (thus far) stack up to years past?
Tampa’s hottest year in recorded history was in 2023, with an average temperature of 76.6°. St. Pete also had a record-breaking 2023, with an average temperature of 76.5°.
La Niña climate patterns — which signal the cooling of ocean surface temperatures in certain areas of the Pacific — are projected to arrive between September and November, which is later than expected + could result in warmer and drier conditions.

How many 90°+ days do you think Tampa will have this year?
I hope you’re having a lovely — and safe — holiday weekend. A reminder: There’s plenty more LDW fun to be had beyond chowing down on burgers and dogs. We rounded up some stellar picks.
I will personally be heading to a secret beach. No offense.
