We prefer our fish freshly caught, crusted with flour and lots of seasoning, and sizzled right in our own kitchen. But first we’ve gotta catch it.

Hubbard’s Marina

Civic

Calling all Hillsborough County residents: Garbage rates are going up. Expect your bill to increase $40 per year, kicking off in October. That increase will go toward improving the county’s aging facilities + the beefing up the landfill. (Tampa Bay Times)

Development

St. Pete leaders are looking for development proposals for a vacant city-owned property in the Deuces. Developers can submit proposals for the 951 22nd St. S. lot through Friday, Oct. 11. What is the land zoned for? Think retail, restaurants, affordable housing, and an events venue. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

National Cuban Sandwich Day, and yep, we’ve got a guide for that. Celebrate in true Tampa style with a sammie piled high with salami, smoked ham, swiss cheese, and yellow mustard.

This one’s for the Jeep owners — and parents. The Lucky Duck Shop — a store specifically stocking 170+ varieties of rubber ducks — opened this week on Central Avenue. In total, the shop stocks some 5,000 ducks from animal and TV-themed friends to horror varieties. (I Love the Burg)

Spooky season is closer than you think. Coyote Ugly will transition into a “Beetlejuice"-approved drinking hole come Saturday, Sept. 7 from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. The Ybor City bar will be transformed with UV-reactive decor, so wear white or movie-themed threads and dance in the glow. (That’s So Tampa)

Travel + Leisure recently included the St. Pete-Clearwater area on its 15 best places to visit in October list. The publication highlighted the area for its beaches, outdoor activities, parks, the SHINE Mural Festival, museums, and our trolley tour. Heck ya. (I Love the Burg)

TBAY fave Fresh Kitchen is hoping to expand. Ciccio Restaurant Group, which owns the fast-casual bowl spot, is on the hunt for a bigger space for its South Tampa Fresh Kitchen, which recently burned down. CRG is waiting to hear if the building can be salvaged. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

How do you protect Tampa Bay’s historic gems from rising seas? Raise them up — carefully.

If approved by the City of Tampa, the owner of the unmistakable, pink-hued Villa de Leon apartment building on Davis Islands hopes to bring the National Register of Historic Places structure up at least seven ft, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal.

But how? Owners haven’t shared plans for how the 1925 building would be elevated, but we could look to some other projects for clues. Workers brought up one historic Charleston home — weighing 360 tons — via two unified jack systems, toe jacks, and crib jacks.

Or consider this local TBAY example: One historic Fourth Street home was moved to a new location in the Round Lake neighborhood — with the move coming in at an estimated price tag of $500,000.

The plans also include making the space underneath the complex into parking spaces, renovating the interiors, and adding an elevator.
