Whenever we’re feeling saucy, we like to dig into a slice of local pizza. The Tampa Bay area’s pizza scene is bubbling with options — and we keep finding ways to outdo ourselves.
If you’re on the quest for the perfect slice, we’ve pie-oneered a list of 15+ places to grab pizza that are definitely worth the dough.
A slice of history
Toby’s Original Little Italy Pizza, 3523 49th St. N., St. Petersburg | For more than 50 years, St. Pete residents have enjoyed pizzas and subs from Toby’s. This laid-back spot offers a simple menu with classics like meatball subs and thin-crust pies.
Eddie & Sam’s New York Pizza, 203 E. Twiggs St., Tampa | This joint has been giving downtown Tampa a taste of the Big Apple since 1998 — literally. It uses New York water in the dough.
Madison Avenue Pizza, 2660 Bayshore Blvd., Dunedin | TBAY’s home of the 32-inch slice has all the classic flavors and almost too many toppings to choose from. In his fabled one-bite pizza review series, Barstool CEO Dave Portnoy gave the Dunedin eatery a commendable score of 7.7 out of 10.
Due Amici Pizza & Pasta Bar, 1724 E. 7th Ave., Ybor City | Many an Ybor night ends here. Head down until 3 a.m. to enjoy tasty slices. Fun fact: It imports tomatoes from Italy.

The Nona Slice House, 997 Main St., Safety Harbor | Pro tip: Keep it simple here with a margherita pizza. That’s the flavor combo owner Jamie Culliton won Best Pizza in the Country for at the American Pizza Championship.
Fabrica, multiple locations | Named one of the world’s best 100 pizzerias in 2023, this restaurant is renowned for its Neopolitan flavors and customizable pizzas.

No. 2 + No. 7. That’s where Tampa and St. Pete ranked respectively on WalletHub’s list of most pet-friendly cities in the United States. Factors like ownership cost, animal health, and outdoor activities were used to compile the list. It’s hardly a surprise: TBAY boasts dozens of pet-friendly businesses.
Sports
Football is back. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers played their first of three preseason games this weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bucs won 17-14 as backup quarterbacks Kyle Trask and John Wolford led the offense. Our team has another chance to practice this weekend vs. the Jaguars. (WFLA)

History
Safety Harbor resident Suzanne Flament-Smith stumbled upon some remarkable history last week. She was picking up shoreline trash after Tropical Storm Debby, and found a glass bottle containing a WWII sailor’s letter. Dated March 4, 1945, the letter is branded with the Navy’s Amphibious Training Base in Norfolk, Virginia. (WFLA)

The annual Florida Python Challenge is underway in the Everglades. Hunters have until Sunday, Aug. 18 to capture as many invasive Burmese pythons as possible to win their share of $30,000 in prizes. Over 600 people signed up this year. (ABC Action News)

Hillsborough County Public Schools and Pinellas County Schools students return to the classroom on Monday, Aug. 11. Here’s a quick roundup of need-to-know education news:
Across TBAY, students face new cell phone policies for the 2024-25 school year. Elementary and middle school students must have their phones turned off and out of sight. High schoolers can use them outside of classes.
HCPS is also working to protect kids as they travel to and from school. The district has introduced stop sign cameras for its almost 1,000 buses. The fine for ignoring protruding stop signs? Up to $225.
