For Valentine’s Day 2024, we made a map of local places where our readers have made memories.

We asked for your help compiling everything from proposals to making friends. You did not disappoint.

Head to the map to see all the local love stories, but here are a few we just had to share.
  • “In September 2013, a guy I liked came to my dorm room in Straz, cooked dinner with me, and asked me to be his girlfriend while wearing my girliest pink apron to make me laugh. I said yes. Over 10 years later, we’re still together, happily married for the last 7 of them. We still celebrate our September anniversary though, because that home-cooked dinner date in my little Straz dorm led to the rest of our lives ❤️.” – Anonymous reader

  • “Curt had slid into my Instagram DMs back in 2021. He invited me to go to the Stanley Cup Playoffs since he had a second ticket... Well, I said yes and we met up on Harbour Island (since he lived in an apartment there) and walked to Amalie Arena and watched the game. Post game, we took a stroll along the Riverwalk and made it back to his apartment building to say goodnight. He kissed me and it was instant butterflies... so I knew ... Next thing ya know, we’ve been together ever since, moved into a house in St. Pete and we both play ice hockey... he’s obviously way better after playing 5 years and me about a year. We went from a simple hockey date (my first time watching a game) to now hockey being a big bonding activity in our relationship!” — Audra G.
  • “My husband and I met volunteering at the VA hospital on Christmas Day 2016. 8 years later we’re still giving back to our community in so many ways! Marry a man who has a servants heart!!” – Anonymous reader
Now we’re really feeling the love.

Here comes the sun. Literally.

Tampa Bay leaders + Tampa Bay Sun Football Club hosted a ceremony yesterday to kick off (get it?) renovations to Howard W. Blake High School’s football stadium.

The area’s first women’s professional soccer team, Tampa Bay Sun, is making $4+ million worth of improvements to the stadium, including bringing the capacity up to ~5,000 people, upgrading locker room facilities, installing a new scoreboard, and adding new FIFA-approved turf. Construction starts this week + will wrap up by August. The team’s inaugural season begins this fall.

“We’re creating another crown jewel for the Tampa Bay area on the professional landscape,” said club President Christina Unkel. The club plans to play their first several seasons at the riverfront spot, and then move to a permanent location.
