John Legend. Doja Cat. Kidz Bop. There are so many exciting shows coming to the Tampa Bay area, we decided to round up 22 of the biggest gigs happening through the end of 2023.
Note: These music genres are purposefully very broad — don’t skip over a category just because you don’t think you like that genre.
Sunken Gardens’ Golden Era: Flamingos, Celebrities, Models and more | Thursday, Oct. 19 | 5:30-6:30 p.m. | Sunken Gardens, 1825 4th St. N., St. Petersburg | $0-$15 | Join curator Jennifer Tyson as she talks about the garden’s 120-year past, including the celebrities who have walked its paths.
The Nature of Art: The Overview Effect | Thursday, Oct. 19 | 6-7 p.m. | Museum of Fine Arts St. Pete, 255 Beach Dr. NE, St. Petersburg | $15-$30 | Learn about a phenomenon which impacts some astronauts after they look back at Earth from above.
Friday, Oct. 20
Gaspar’s Grotto 20th Anniversary Bash | Friday, Oct. 20 | 8 p.m. | Gaspar’s Grotto, 1805 E. 7th Ave., Tampa | Free | Celebrate two decades of this popular Ybor spot with a Roaring 20s pirate extravaganza.
Saturday, Oct. 21
2023 Cycling For Autism | Saturday, Oct. 21 | 8:30 a.m. | 7720 W. Courtney Campbell Cswy., Tampa | $50 | Hop in the saddle for the 12th annual event which raises money for autism support programs.
St. Petersburg International Folk Fair | Saturday, Oct. 21 | 10 a.m.-6 p.m. | Albert Whitted Park, 107 8th Ave. SE, St. Petersburg | $0-$14 | Celebrate cultures from around the globe at the 48th annual fair, with music, live performances, and food + drink.
Tall Tales of Old Florida | Saturday, Oct. 21 | 7:00-9:30 p.m. | Florida State Fairgrounds, 4800 U.S. 301 N., Tampa | $15 | Hear spooky tales from 19th Century Florida by lantern light.
Currently: Card issuers use robust payment networks to process card charges, and charge the merchant a fee to fund card benefits and secure their network.
Proposal: If passed, the act could move that payment to a cheaper, less secure network, reducing card issuers’ abilities to fund rewards programs.
Future: Without funds, credit card points and miles could disappear overnight.
Tampa Bay’s new USL Super League team will play at Blake High School for the next several years. The team will pay an estimated $4 million to upgrade the school’s stadium which sits on the Hillsborough River waterfront, increasing the capacity from 1,800 to about 5,000. Their inaugural season begins next August.

The Blind Tiger has moved to a new, upgraded Ybor City location. The popular coffee shop’s new home is just up the road at 1823 E. 7th Ave. + is more double the size. A rooftop speakeasy is in the works too, but a timeline has not been announced. (That’s So Tampa)
Community
A Pinellas County high school has been chosen to play at a prestigious parade. The Seminole High Warhawk Marching Band will perform at the 2025 Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. The event usually precedes the New Year’s Day Rose Bowl football game. (WFLA)
Coming Soon
Kura Sushi is opening a location in Tampa soon. A soft launch is set for this Sunday, Oct. 22 and it will be the latest of Kura’s 50+ stores. The revolving sushi spot will be at 214 Westshore Plaza with a grand opening scheduled next week. (That’s So Tampa)
Festival
Have you seen the Sulphur Springs Water Tower? A local group is raising money to preserve and restore the historic landmark. The annual River Tower Festival raises money for those efforts, featuring live music, food + local vendors. It’s on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 401 E. Bird St. + starts at noon. Grab tickets. Biz
A Tampa insurance startup is getting a big chunk of change from a California firm. Titan Insurance is receiving $2 million from K2 Insurance Services. Titan uses artificial intelligence to give homeowners information about their flood risk + insurance costs within a matter of seconds. (St. Pete Catalyst)
Eat
A popular spot for New York-inspired Indian Rice Bowls has a new location. Bang Bang Bowls has been tickling Tampa Bay taste buds in Seminole Heights since January. There is now a second store in Wesley Chapel at 19651 Bruce B Downs Blvd. (That’s So Tampa)
