The Preview Day started with a welcome session in Bush Chapel. | Photo by LALtoday
LALtoday City Editor Rilee here. When I graduated from Southeastern University in 2019, a lot was different (hello, Welcome Center). One thing that didn’t change? SEU Preview Days, where prospective students and parents get to see what fueling the fire is all about.
Join me as I tour the campus — and see why SEU’s Homecoming Weekend Preview Day on Friday, Oct. 27 is an ideal day to Try This for yourself.
What we tried
Speaking of Fueling the Fire,my first stop was Portico Coffeehouse (of course) to order my fave iced oat milk vanilla latte — a long day of learning + exploring calls for caffeine after all.
Coffee in hand, I stepped into the bright and newly-built Welcome Center. The air was thick with excitement while potential students signed in.
The group soon headed to Bush Chapel for a student-led chapel service complete with music, a message from a student speaker, and a quick Preview Day rundown from the team.
Keep reading to continue the tour and to learn about the upcoming Homecoming Weekend Preview Day.

🏝️ What’s going on at Sunset Beach?
Sunset Beach restoration project update
It’s called Sunset Beach for a reason. | Photo by TBAYtoday
Although Tampa Bay largely avoided the devastation of Hurricane Idalia seen elsewhere, some parts of our area were still impacted. About a mile of Sunset Beach was closed in late September to repair damaged dunes.
Now that the $6 million restoration project has entered Phase II, here’s what you need to know:
Hundreds of trucks dumped sand during the first phase of the project to replenish what Idalia washed away.
Several plants are now being introduced to help rebuild the 40-year-old dune system — beach elder, railroad vine, panicgrass, and sea oats. The plants will catch sand as it is blown down the beach, causing dunes to compact, stay in place, and give protection against tides and storm surges.
Officials hope to reopen the beach to the public by Monday, Oct. 30.
People are urged to stay off the dunes until the beach is open again — this will help the project run smoothly.
