Kids and adults alike enjoy a summer afternoon at Ballast Point Park’s playground. | Bailey LeFever
Sorry, but — NO ADULTS ALLOWED — this one is for the kids. Grown-ups, please hand this over to your little one. Got it, kiddo? Let’s plan a family day together. Here’s a fun schedule for you to try.
Morning
Be a chef and cook breakfast for the adults at home. The night before, ask your family to choose from one of these recipes. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if any of the instructions seem confusing.
While you eat, talk about your plan for the day. Ask your family to help you prepare a backpack with things you’ll need. We suggest bringing: 🍫 Plenty of snacks like granola bars 💧 A water bottle 🧢 A hat
If you have time before heading to lunch, play at a playground like Ballast Point Park near Bayshore Boulevard.
Afternoon
For lunch, head to Daily Eats for Cap’N Crunch French Toast and old school diner vibes. After you’ve filled your belly, spend the afternoon exploring Glazer Children’s Museum. What are you looking forward to most? Looking up at the giant kaleidoscope and its colorful beauty? Or building and creating in the Engineers’ Workshop?
A kiddo takes a peek into the imaginative kaleidoscope.
Wrap up the day with a family dinner. Head to one of our local farmers markets to pick out foods you can make together. Over dinner, talk about everything you did today. Ask questions like:
🧠 What was something new you learned? 🤡 What was something funny that happened? 👀 What would we do differently if we did that again? 👍 What do you definitely want to do again? (And again and again…)
Grown-ups — send us more family-friendly recommendations and we may just feature them in an upcoming newsletter.

No. 89. That’s where USF fell on U.S. News & World Report’s annual ranking of the country’s top universities. This is the highest rank yet for the Tampa Bay institution — and bumps the school up eight rungs from last year. (Tampa Bay Business Journal)

🥇 83.9 % of readers said they’d most like to live close to our award-winning Tampa Riverwalk. The path features 2.6 scenic miles of walking and biking space right off the Hillsborough River...so we get it. 🥈 Amalie Arena, the Florida Aquarium, and the Straz Center for Performing Arts all tied for second place — securing five percent of the vote each.
I am so excited for Elevenses “Gilmore Girls” themed pop-up menu this week. The bakery’s menu hasn’t been released yet, but I’m sure there will be ample Lorelai and Rory-themed macarons to delight.
