Development
The 120-year-old former Diaz Cigar Factory in West Tampa is currently being converted into student housing for local colleges. The “Cigar Lofts at Albany” building is being restored to its original look on the outside, and may be ready by April — though there is no official completion date yet. (Tampa Bay Times)

Our favorite local flamingo just got recognized. Phoebe, TPA’s 21-foot-tall pink flamingo, recently won in the transportation category of the international CODAWorx Awards. Phoebe also received one of two People’s Choice Awards with 3,000+ votes.

Hillsborough County’s hospitality industry saw major growth in July, according to recent reports from from STR, Inc. The report shows that hotel revenues in the county were up 13.8%, and occupancy increased by 3.4%.
