The outdoors are for everybody — and there are plenty of hikes in our area that are friendly to wheelchairs, strollers, and other mobility aids. Get some fresh air on three of our favorite accessible trails.

🌲 Lettuce Lake Park

Spot wildlife like turtles, birds, fish, and gators from the boardwalks. The boardwalk loops are relatively flat and are typically at least 4 ft wide. We recommend parking at the lot on Osprey Drive, where there is a designated accessible parking spot.

🌳 Flatwoods Loop Trail

This 11-mile loop winds through the Flatwoods Wilderness Preserve, affording a tree-lined trek over a paved trail. The surface is generally smooth and flat, and typically 10 ft wide. Park in one of the four designated accessible spots at the Bruce B. Downs Boulevard lot at the trail’s north end.

🏝 Al Lopez Park Trail

Enjoy water views from the 1.2-mile interior loop, which carves through wooded areas. The paved, flat trail ranges between 4 to 10 ft wide. Don’t forget to stop at the Cordelia Hunt Community Center, which is also wheelchair accessible.

What’s your go-to wheelchair-accessible trail? Let us know where we should explore next.

This one’s for my gamers, Buccaneers fans, and sports trivia nerds. This year was the first time since 2019 that a Madden game didn’t place a Bucs QB on its annual top ten list. But a few of our pewter boys scored really high in Madden NFL 24:
  1. Tristian Wirfs — 92 overall
  2. Lavonte David — 91 overall
  3. Mike Evans — 90 overall
