👋 Hey, TBAY. City Editor Brad here. I definitely slept on the power of soup until my most recent scuffle with strep. I’m here to say that my fridge is now fully stocked with quarts and pints of every flavor and variety.
Pho typically has herbs, meat, warm broth, and rice noodles — kind of similar to a chicken noodle soup. We recommend Chicken Pho Ga. It’s jam-packed with ramen.
What’s more French than a crepe? Perhaps a savory French onion soup. And while you could easily order Panera’s version online, La Creparia’s version has a wonderful piece of floating fresh baguette. You can tell it’s made with love, which is what this iconic dish is all about. Side note: The cheese pull was extreme, and when you’re sick, you’ll take all the fun you can get.
It’s pretty hard to go wrong with a throat-soothing and gut-filling bowl of wonton soup. Plus, this restaurant gets bonus points for staying open until 10 p.m.

Historic street names in Tampa Bay
A colorful home in Seminole Heights brightens the corner of Mohawk and 11th. | Photo by TBAYtoday
Let’s dig into 140 years of vibrant Tampa Bay history.
You may remember when we first shared a list of nine local street names and their historical roots back in August. Today we’re hitting the refresh button to share a handful of other noteworthy roads.
Fortune Street — this small road between Doyle Carlton and N. Ashley was named after freed slave Fortune Taylor, whose husband claimed nearly 30 acres of land (to grow oranges, guavas, and peaches on). The Madame Fortune Taylor drawbridge was also named in her honor before it was renamed the Laurel Street Bridge.
Zack Street — named after the 12th president of the US, Zachary Taylor, who served as a major general in the War of 1812.
Queen Street — “Q” is letter No. 17 in the alphabet and, accordingly, around 17 blocks away from Central Ave.
Editor’s pick: With the off chance Bert Kreischer reads this, I’m devoting this next section to “The Machine” himself:
Bert, you’re my favorite comedian, chef, podcaster, and Floridian. We’d love to take a peak behind the curtains and interview you. Just shooting my shot. Okay byeee. 🤭
And to our comedy fans, you might be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t see him Friday night.
Missed yesterday’s newsletter? There’s a lot going on this Saturday around the burg, so we rounded up the must-dos, here.
