As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head into their first regular-season game on Sun., Sept. 11 in Dallas, here are four Bucs players who have made a difference off the field as well as on.
Mike Evans. The Bucs’ wide receiver doesn’t just receive, he gives. He and his wife, Ashli, established the Evans Family Foundation in 2017 to empower youth and encourage education, awarding thousands of dollars in scholarships. This season Evans will donate one essential item, such as clothing, school supplies, and diapers, for every receiving yard he earns. For every touchdown he scores, he will donate 13 additional items. Carl Nassib. Linebacker Nassib made headlines two years ago with his pledge of $100,000 to The Trevor Project , a suicide prevention service for LGBTQ+ youth. He didn’t stop there: In June of this year he made another pledge, vowing to match all donations made to the organization up to $100,000. And last month he debuted a free social media app, Rayze , which matches nonprofits with volunteers and donors.
Logan Ryan. The Bucs safety not only protects the team against touchdowns, he’s big on protecting animals, too. New to the team, he has already partnered with the Humane Society of Tampa Bay through his Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation by offering scholarships for free virtual dog training . Warrick Dunn. The retired running back has set a high bar for philanthropy among pro athletes. As a rookie in 1997, he founded Homes for the Holidays to help reduce the burden of home ownership for single parents, and in 2002 expanded the nonprofit’s reach through creation of Warrick Dunn Charities, Inc.
