Hey all you, Smarty Joneses. Tomorrow’s the Kentucky Derby, and it’s time to giddy up, Tampa Bay style.

  • Derby at The Pier | Saturday, May 6 | 3-9 p.m. | Spa Beach Park, 615 2nd Ave. NE, St. Petersburg | $20-$1,250 | Pull on your best Derby hat, seersucker suit, or floral dress and head to the pier to watch the race on a giant screen while sipping on a mint julep or bourbon.
  • Florida Wiener Dog Derby | Saturday, May 6 | 10 a.m.-5 p.m. | Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 N. Ashley Dr., Tampa | $17-$80 | Yes, this is a different kind of derby, but who’s to say these aren’t the big dogs? Watch 500 weiner dogs compete for best kisser, nose, and tail, and race in the Speed Trap.
  • Taste of Water Street: A Day at the Races | Saturday, May 6 | 4:30-7:30 p.m. | Raybon Plaza, 536 Channelside Dr., Tampa | Free | The buzzy neighborhood is celebrating race day with festive outfits (stop by the Joyful Notion Flower Cart to decorate your hat), whiskey flights, live jazz from The Distinguished Gentlemen of Brass, and Derby-themed games — post time is 6:57 p.m.
