Hopefully we’ll see a winning season in Tampa.

Thankfully, we won’t have to drive far for Rays games this upcoming season. Ownership announced the team will play at George M. Steinbrenner Field while repairs are made to Tropicana Field.

The news follows Mayor Ken Welch’s announcement that St. Pete would cover the $55+ million needed to replace the Trop’s roof + make other needed fixes post Hurricane Milton.

But isn’t that where the Yankees play Grapefruit League games? The Yanks will still play this upcoming spring training season at Steinbrenner, while the Rays will use Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte, according to a release.

Owners argued that this is the best fit for the team, as the stadium seats 11,000 fans — making it the largest spring training facility in our area — and upgrades were just made to the Tampa facility.

Steinbrenner just recieved new field lighting, more home locker room space, and improved training and rehabilitation capabilities — and there’s more improvements on the way.
