If you’ve lost motivation to work, are feeling less productive, or find yourself worrying, feeling anxious, or stressed — you might need to take a mental health day(or a couple of days).
Here are some ways you can recharge your batteries in TBAY.
🌱 Get some fresh air
Go for a walk around Old Southeast by Lassing Park or launch a canoe into the Hillsborough River at Lettuce Lake Park — rent your vessel here. Or fully immerse yourself in nature on a paddle board expedition around Pass-A-Grille, using PADL’s vessel vending machine. And to get as far away as you can from it all and get a change in perspective — hike Cockroach Bay Preserve’s rocky mound for a far-out view of the Tampa skyline.
🎨 Do something creative
One way to decompress is by seeking new creative inspiration or trying something new. Check out some of the music-making workshops at School of Rock, or sign up for a painting class at Painting with a Twist(the twist is alcohol, but you don’t have to partake if you don’t want to). Both have locations around Tampa and St. Pete.
🏋️ Get in a workout
It can be difficult to fit in active time during the work week, so taking some time to get your body moving can be a great way to utilize time during your mental health day. If you’re looking to really break a sweat, try out a spin class at CycleBar Hyde Park. Or seek yoga flow at HOTWORX(2208 S. Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa) or The Collective(327 11th Ave. N., St. Petersburg, Suite 201).

Upcoming winter holidays
Prepare for a packed December. | Photo by Olivia Gaines via Pexels
Plenty of cultures celebrate the start of winter, the end of the year, or just the coming of cold weather by gathering with loved ones and giving thanks.
Look forward to:
Yule (begins today, Dec. 21), an ancient Germanic solstice festival. Celebrants mark the shortest day of the year and balance between light and dark.
Hanukkah(ongoing), the Jewish Festival of Lights, which began the evening of Sunday, Dec. 18, and ends on Monday, Dec. 26.
Christmas(Dec. 25), a cultural and religious festival – which, if you’ve put off gift shopping until now, there’s still time.
Kwanzaa(Dec. 26), a week of African American and pan-African celebrations culminating in Karamu on Saturday, Dec. 31.
You don’t need to celebrate them all — but let’s all celebrate together.
THE WRAP
Today’s issue was written by Brad.
Editor’s pick: I have a fever, and the only prescription is disco nights at Good Night John Boy (16 2nd St. N. St. Petersburg). A top movie fave of mine is “Boogie Nights,” and I feel like the spot will fully encapsulate St. Pete in that suave and groovy 70’s nostalgia.
