Announced
For the first time in 30 years, First Night St. Pete, the city’s classic New Year’s celebration , has been canceled. The reason: a lack of sponsors + lasting effects of the pandemic. The event’s chair says they hope to bring back the scavenger hunt, Bubble Stomp + street art in 2023. 🎆 (St. Pete Catalyst)
Film
Move over, Hollywood. Tampa Bay’s role in the film industry is expanding. Filming wrapped this week on “Project Baby,”Haylie Duff’s directorial debut — and the film’s producer hopes to bring more projects here. Which shouldn’t be too hard a sell, as Hillsborough + Pinellas counties offer cash incentives for money filmmakers spend in the area. (That’s So Tampa)
Plan Ahead
The Bucs are back, and it’s time to party — on the beach, of course. TradeWinds Island Resorts is hosting a massive fiesta on the beach on opening weekend, Fri., Sept. 9-Sun., Sept. 11, as the Bucs take on the Dallas Cowboys. The family-friendly event will have cornhole tournaments, live music performances, and a watch party. (That’s So Tampa)
Eat
A burger explosion is on the way. This week, the popular Smashburger chain announced plans to bring 15 new locations to Tampa Bay. The burger joint — known for “smashing” high quality meat on a high heat flat top grill — already has a location on Dale Mabry and in Largo. 🍔 (Creative Loafing)
There’s one thing we know for sure:Cutting out chores like meal planning + prepping gives us more time for all the activities that make Tampa Bayso great. Home Chef agrees — their meal kits are rated No. 1for a reason. *
