Hillsborough officials are dedicating two new spots this week: Jackson House and the Scrub.

Have you trekked down the Tampa Soul Walk, the city’s new art and heritage trail devoted to the area’s Black history? Now’s your chance.

On Wednesday, July 12, county leaders will dedicate two new markers for the historic Jackson House (which once hosted artists like Billie Holiday and Nat King Cole) + The Scrub, once the city’s oldest and biggest African American neighborhood. The ceremony is at Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Public Library (1505 N. Nebraska Ave., Tampa) at 11 a.m.

Stop by to hear the history of the significant Tampa spots. After the ceremony, make your way down to some of the walks’ other landmarks, like the Historic Harlem Academy or St. Peter Claver Catholic Church.

Can’t make the in-person event? The city offers a solo tour with site descriptions + maps via the Bloomberg Connects app. Pro tip: The walk is more than 46 miles and spans 25 neighborhoods. We suggest breaking it up into a few Saturday excursions.
