Itching to get out of town but don’t want to commit to a super strenuous 18-hour road trip?

Here’s the good news. Today, on National Road Trip Day, we’re actually headed to TBAY’s backyard. Pack your coolers and floaties; we’re day-trippin’ to Egmont Key State Park (your very own deserted island).

Psst. It’s only about an hour’s boat ride from town.

Take a boat tour

First things first. You can only get to the island by boat. So be ready to shell out some dough for a ferry. The Pelican offers daily boat tours that leave from the St. Pete Pier. The trip includes two hours on the island for snorkeling, exploring, and relaxing on the beach. Tix are $39-$59.

Visit the Egmont Key Lighthouse

While you’re there, head to the Egmont Key Lighthouse. The beacon was built in 1874 and is still in operation today. You can go inside + climb the stairs up more than 100 ft to the top.

Look for shark teeth

Looking to take home a souvenir for free? Go hunting for some sand tiger shark teeth. Hunt for the chompers all around the island.
