Taste test these 12 Tampa Bay bakeries

These Tampa Bay bakeries serve traditional Cuban and Greek delights, creative concoctions, and just solid slices of cake.

Pastry perfection

Lay your eyes on this pastry perfection.

Guava-stuffed pockets. Salted-honey drizzled croissants. Kourabiedes — Greek wedding cookies. Tampa Bay’s lauded bakery scene is just as diverse + inspired as its people.

We’ve rounded up a selection of bakeries serving traditional Cuban and Greek delights, creative concoctions, and just solid slices of cake. Have at it:

Editor’s Note: There’s far too many bakeries for us to feature them all. Please send us your favorites for our next installation.

La Segunda Bakery | La Segunda’s been a Tampa staple for 100+ years for its Cuban bread, guava and cheese turnovers, and café con leche. Plus, there’s three locations across TBAY, so you’re always in range of the bakery’s flaky magic.

Cafe Clementine | You’ll find City Editor Bailey crunching on a salted-honey croissant and other stand-out seasonal pastries. Enjoy your selection inside the light-filled Museum of Fine Arts St. Pete atrium (where it’s located) or on the patio outside overlooking the waterfront.

Elevenses | Remember that “Gilmore Girls” bakery pop-up? That was the brainchild of Elevenses — Ybor’s small-batch from-scratch bakery + third-wave multi-roaster coffee shop.

Wright’s Gourmet House | If you’ve attended a birthday soiree, wedding, or going-away lunch, you’ve probably had one of Wright’s legendary cakes. We recommend the alpine cake, topped with white chocolate shavings.

Cassis | No need to head to Paris. Find a fresh pressed orange juice machine, traditional French desserts, and European vibes at this Beach Drive spot.

Sucré Table | Food Network Challenge Winner Brenda Villacorta’s shop sells everything from chocolate praline pastries to croissant muffins. There’s also a vast coffee menu to pair your treat with.

Alessi Bakery | The bakery’s founder once delivered Italian and Cuban bread on horse and wagon to customers. But now you can stop in the deli for your loaf — or cannoli, cream puff, or fruit pie.

Chocolate Pi | Tea time is best served with fresh macarons and slices of cake from this Cigar City gem. Or, actually enjoy a high tea experience in their breezy dining room.

Gabby Bakes | This TBAY baker is known for its custom celebration and wedding cakes + small batch vegan baked goods. Pick up goodies at her baking studio in Seminole Heights or at an Indie Flea pop-up.

Cafe Mozart | It’s a taste of Germany in the Burg, with apple strudel, Black Forest cake, bienenstich. And yes, they have a drive-thru.

The Crumb Factory | Pick up cinnamon roll cruffins, sourdough bread or a quick breakfast or lunch sandwich at this artisan spot.

Hellas Restaurant & Bakery | Customers young and old wrap around the block for Hellas’ Baklava and other Greek pastries. Then, take your haul over to watch the action at the famed Sponge Docks.
