We’re aware of Tampa Bay’s culinary prowess, but it’s nice to get some nationwide foodie recognition.
The latest edition of the Florida Michelin Guide just dropped and of the 14 Sunshine State additions, four call Tampa Bay home. Now let’s meet the islanders:
Big Ray’s Fish Camp
Nothing screams Tampa Bay quite like a fish camp. Big Ray’s serves all the classics — like shrimp po’ boys, grouper sandwiches, and peel and eat shrimp — plus a range of inventive additions like grouper cheeks in a sweet Thai chile. Michelin raves Big Ray’s is a “total find.”
Michelin recommends: Smoked fish dip, key lime pie
Mad Dogs & Englishmen
Yes, the new location only recently opened its doors, but Mad Dogs is a Tampa staple. The English-inspired menu features entrees like mushroom leek pie and aubergine bolognese. Even better, the relocated pub’s eats are served in a light-filled conservatory, library, and patio decked out with black and white portraits aplenty.
Michelin recommends: Shepherd’s pie, Sunday roast
Cousin Vinny’s Sandwich Co.
Michelin calls this Cass Street sandwich joint “Italian to the bone,” pronouncing both its meat and bread high quality. Named after the classic flick, the shop’s menu serves hearty schiaccata bread and cutlet-stuffed sandwiches, wraps, and meatballs.
Michelin recommends: Tomato and mozzarella on their house-made schiacciata, Tony Piccante
Fisk
The Scandinavian bar + eatery offers a taste of Chef Ebbe Vollmer’s travels. Think: Schnitzel, curried cod, foccacia, and a gingerbread spiced tiramisu all on one menu. Make sure you make plans to visit Ebbe — located in the same building — too.
Michelin recommends: fish soup, smoked salmon eclair, crab salad
