TPA’s Red Express Curbside is now open

Plus, more updates for the intentional airport and Robles Park developments.

A rendering shows a curbside entrance to Tampa International Airport with floor to ceiling windows, opening into a tall-ceilinged room with two escalators going up and framed by a massive red and yellow abstract painting.

Loyal Southwest, Spirit, and Air Canada customers rejoice: Tampa International’s new Red Express Curbsides is now open. So if you’re traveling light you can escape the slog that is the ticketing level of TPA and head straight for your gate.

Don’t miss feasting your eyes on the new art displays in your hustle to make it past security to the last-remaining Goody Goody. All you have to do is look up.

Really, hop on the escalator to the main terminal and fix your eyes to the sky (err ceiling) for Jason Bruges’ “Cloud Ascent.” The 3D display is opaque and changes with the cloud formations + weather patterns to mimic what’s like to ascend through the clouds.

So, what else is going on development-wise in Tampa Bay?

More TPA magic

Last week, The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority board approved major contracts for Tampa International Airport’s Airside D.

How major? The $103 million contract with its design build lead Hensel Phelps covers work on underground concrete foundations and utilities, plus costs for materials like steel, electrical gear, and chillers. Super sexy stuff.

Work on the $1.5 billion project kicked off earlier this year. The new 16-gate terminal is projected to open in 2028.

Robles Park demolition

Robles Park Village is coming down — soon. Demolition of the Tampa’s oldest public housing development starts on Monday, Sept. 15.

Construction on the first installment of the $700 million redevelopment project is slated to start in April 2026. This section of the build includes 233 residential units + a 30,000-sqft community center.

The final mixed-use area will boast townhomes, multi-family units, and senior living units, plus parks, a 30,000-sqft grocery store, parking, retail, and office space. Here’s a full breakdown of what’s next for the Village.
