Here’s the latest need-to-know transit + development news:

Gas Plant District redevelopment

Last week, we teased that local investors + developers were submitting a bid to redevelop the area surrounding the Trop. Now, we... err the city... have the $6.8 billion proposed plans.

The 98-page proposal includes the Woodson African American Museum of Florida, a 1.15 million-sqft innovation campus, a 1,543-room hotel, an indoor music hall, an outdoor amphitheater, and a750,000-sqft academic + research hub.

Cross Bay Ferry’s new provider

You might recognize the company might score the contract to run the new Cross Bay Ferry. Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority recommended Tampa Bay Sea Taxi operate the new service.

The company is affiliated with Hubbard’s Ferry — of Eggmont Key Ferry fame — and would operate the ferry year round. The PSTA board still needs to approve the pick.

Tampa could soon host its own ‘vertiport’

And what exactly, is that? It means an area for the take-off, landing, and parking of vertical take-off and landing aircraft.

Cushman & Wakefield is working with VertiPorts by Atlantic to bring a vertiport to Tampa, That’s So Tampa first reported. The company is still looking at Cigar City sites for the new air taxi hub.
