The federal dollars will go toward housing, public facility improvements, mitigation projects, and other relief efforts.

The sun will always rise. After 2024’s back-to-back hurricanes, the Burg is launching Sunrise St. Pete to dole out $159.8 million in relief funding.

The US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded the Sunshine City the Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery money for long-term recovery, housing, and infrastructure needs.

What are the plans for the money?

    • Housing development and rehabilitation
    • Infrastructure and public facilities improvements
    • Economic development and revitalization
    • Mitigation projects
    • Public service programs
    • Planning efforts
    • Administrative expenses

Okay, so we have the money. What’s next?

The city will kick off the process by taking public comment later this month. Leaders will use data and residents’ feedback to create an action plan.

Next up, the plan heads to HUD for their review — which takes up to 45 days. The city will work out the final grant agreements in Q3, and the awards will be dispersed within two years.

        Want to weigh in?

City leaders will be taking public comment and sharing details about the process at Mayor Welch’s City Hall On Tour on Wednesday, March 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Coliseum.
