You get a tree. And you get a tree. And you get a tree.

The City of St. Petersburg just kicked off the third round of its Neighborhood Tree Matching Mini-Grant Program. Through the program, the city hopes to pluck trees into rights-of-way and street-facing front yards — so far, 70+ shade trees have been planted.

Neighborhoods and business associations can apply for shade trees worth up to $10,000. The rules? Applicants must be affiliated with a registered association, plant the trees within 12 months, choose approved tree species, and plant the arbors in rights-of-ways or on street-facing private front yards, according to the application.

Associations can apply through Monday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. The timeline? The city hopes to get trees in the ground this October and November.
