Need-to-know Milton and Helene updates

We’re checking in with FEMA and aid deadlines, and debris totals.

A pile of household debris following Hurricane Milton. The pile is in front of residential houses on a small grassy area by a road, and vegetative waste is alongside the household debris.

Debris will take some time to remove.

We’re back for our weekly post-hurricanes update. Feeding you the updates, without inundating you with coverage.

We promise it’s helpful news.

  • Need help clearing out muck or debris from your yard or home? Reach out to the Crisis Cleanup registration hotline at 844-965-1386 by Friday, Nov. 1 for free assistance picking up tree limbs, cleaning out stormwater muck, and picking up debris.
  • There’s still time to apply for FEMA Assistance. But don’t wait — the deadline to apply for aid for Hurricane Helene is Nov. 27 and for Hurricane Milton is Dec. 11. Both renters and homeowners can apply for aid online, over the phone, or at a disaster center. Make sure to take pictures of ruined items or damage + keep receipts for hotel stays and necessary items.
  • St. Pete announced that so far, workers have collected 300,000 cubic yards of debris. That’s already more than Irma’s total and the cleanup’s still got a long way to go.
